VándorLó Guesthouse lies in the picturesque little village of Kisbattyán, in the quiet, unspoilt countryside of the Eastern Mecsek, part of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas. The brief was to create a guesthouse in this peaceful, charming village — an ideal retreat for those who want to escape the bustle of the city and enjoy being close to nature. Equestrian tourism is part of the offer.

“The authentic farmhouse set out to keep its own charm — the kitchen is part IKEA, part bespoke; the added beams, the rustic glazed cement tiles, the brick-effect floor tiles and the pendants brought over from Bóly all tell the story of tradition.”

“A view through to the bathroom. Every function stayed in its original place. The house underwent a complete renovation — most of the windows and doors had to be remade; they were modernised without departing from the original character.”

“Only the lengthwise planked ceiling is the farmhouse's original structure; the beams were dreamt into the space afterwards. Painting them white was a deliberate decision — the ceiling height is very low.”

“As is typical of farmhouses, the rooms open one into the next. We partitioned off this tiny room, just big enough for the two beds. The resulting passageway made room for the storage cupboard.”

“And so we reach the ‘tiszta szoba’, the traditional best room. The largest room, sleeping 4. After many iterations, we decided not to divide it into two sleeping alcoves for two, but to make it a family room. The bunk structure is timber — it speaks the language of the farmhouse.”
